Project: “It Starts with Me” Anti-Violence Workshops
Organization: Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network
These anti-violence workshops are organized and provided through Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network (NAWN), located in Stephenville but affiliated with multiple aboriginal groups across the province. This train-the-trainer program, “It Starts with Me” teaches participants about violence prevention, self-worth, self-care, and life balance as well as facilitation skills. Each member then returned to their communities to deliver the program to other women. With the help of the Fig Fund grant, NAWN has planned to offer the program in 6 communities in 2020.
Grant Update:
The Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network (NAWN) hosted five workshops across Newfoundland and Labrador called “It Starts with Me”. These workshops taught women across the province about violence prevention, self-worth, life-balances, and facilitation skills. The program began as a “train the trainer” program, with each member returning to their communities to deliver the program to even more women with great success.
