Project: Jewelry Program

Organization: The Gathering Place

Working with the Gathering Place officials, the FIG Fund established a jewelry-making program for the female guests of The Gathering Place. The Gathering Place is a service centre committed to building community, promoting equality and providing nourishment. The goal of the jewelry-making program is to build the skills and confidence of female clients. It is a place to be creative and social, all while learning new skills and creating jewelry. For many of the program members, jewelry-making has become an at-home hobby as well.

A jewelry sale is held annually, with a portion of the profit going to the designer of the piece, and a portion returning into the program for further materials and beads. The jewelry program has been able to sustain itself with this percentage of the sales returning to the program. The program is still ongoing today and run by two FIG Fund board members: Sherri Miller and Kate McNicholas.
