Project: Girls Decide 2025

Organization: Boys & Girls Club Norris Arm

FIG Fund Grant: $5,000

The FIG Fund is proud to support Girls Decide 2025, a six-month program delivered by the Boys & Girls Club of Norris Arm that empowers youth girls and those who self-identify as women to take charge of their futures.

Through bi-weekly sessions, participants engaged in skill-building activities, leadership development, community volunteering, and meaningful conversations around identity, confidence, healthy relationships, and decision-making. The program provided a dedicated, girls-only space where participants felt safe, supported, and empowered to be themselves — an especially vital opportunity in a rural community with limited programming options.

As a result of the FIG Fund’s support, participants demonstrated increased confidence, stronger social-emotional skills, and a greater sense of belonging. The program also fostered lasting friendships and deeper community involvement, with one participant stepping into a volunteer and peer mentor role at the Club.

This grant has strengthened both current programming and long-term capacity at BGC Norris Arm, highlighting the importance of gender-specific spaces that allow girls to grow into resilient, confident leaders within their communities.

Testimonials:
“Every time I came to the Girls Decide program, I always felt safe. I thought the program was excellent, and I would love to have a girls-only space at the Club all the time. It gave us a special chance to chat about things we can’t talk about around boys, and the staff make us feel safe to have these conversations. Thank you.” – Neveah, age 13
